About Me
Magdalena Pillai is a silver and mixed metal jeweller, who focuses on traditional slow jewellery making techniques to create handmade and one-of-a-kind wearable pieces of art. She studied with a range of silversmithing teachers including Ernst Phenninger, and has continued to learn and evolve her creative practices. Her jewellery aims to bring individuals into closer harmony with community and nature. She is influenced by the natural environment of the forests, oceans and waterways that surround her and inform her creative practice. She also draws inspiration from a variety of cultural communities due to her time spent travelling in Czech, Italy, Spain and India. Sustainability is a very important motivator for her creation, using recycled metals to minimise mining impacts on the environment and curating fundraising art exhibitions for the Wilderness Society. She was approached by Milano Jewellery Week and has now exhibited multiple times in the internationally acclaimed exhibition.
